If you need help deciding whether to report an incident, getting support, or deciding who you would like to report your incident to, the LiveWell Confidential advocates serve the whole UW Seattle Community and offer confidential assistance in navigating issues of harassment, bias, and sexual violence.

UW ACES

The Association of Chemical Engineering Graduate Students (ACES) is a registered student organization (RSO) dedicated to improving the lives and impact of graduate students in the UW ChemE department.

  • Every international student should take advantage of UW International Student Services (ISS). It provides counseling regarding immigration status, as well as federal and university policies that affect citizens of other countries. Each international student has an advisor assigned by last name who should be the first point of contact regarding any visa-related issues.
  • UW's Career Center has a personalized hub for international students. 

Many ChemE community members qualify for disability accommodations and disabled ChemE's are an important part of our community. 

  • Disability Resources for Students assists graduate and undergraduate students with disability accommodations.
  • The Disability Services Office serves faculty and staff, including postdocs, as well as members of the public and job applicants who need disability accommodations. 
  • UW's Career Center has a personalized hub for career advice specific to students with disabilities. 
  • The UW Disability Faculty & Staff Association is a group for all D/deaf, disabled, chronically ill, neurodivergent-identifying faculty/staff and allies, at the University of Washington, to advocate for universal design across campus and to find and build community. We center the social model of disability, the principles of disability justice, disability culture, and the complex intersectional identities of our diverse community.
  • The D Center Fosters a community of d/Disability and d/Deaf pride, and develops and supports social, cultural and educational programming.
  • Report Barriers To Access directly to UW Facilities - this form has gotten really quick helpful responses in the past. 

Veterans are a valued part of the UW ChemE Community. 

  • Veterans Educational Benefit Office can help you navigate your funding options, from VA education benefits and state waivers, to financial aid and scholarships.
  • The Office of Student Veteran Life is a unit founded by student veterans, for student veterans to assist transitioning student veterans by connecting them with someone who has shared their unique experiences and has successfully navigated from service in the military to service as a civilian.
  • The University’s veterans’ preference policy details the definitions and application of preference for qualifying veterans and surviving spouses receive some degree of preference in appointments to state jobs under Washington State law
  • All University employees who are members of, or who are in the process of enlisting for, any of the United States uniformed services are eligible for both military training time off and military unpaid leave.
  • The Washington State Department of Veterans’ Affairs (WDVA) administers a shared leave pool specifically for those state employees who are a veteran or spouse of a veteran to attend medical appointments or treatments for a service connected injury or disability.
  • UW's Career Center has a personalized hub for career advice specific to student veterans. 

The LGBTQ+ members of the ChemE community represent an important part of our department at every level. The department holds a pride celebration each June and also works hard to ensure that the environment is welcoming and supportive year-round.

UW ChemE is home to a large community of faculty, staff, and students who identify as underrepresented at UW and/or in STEM.

  • The Office of Minority Affairs and Diversity (OMAD) Offers one-to-one advising and academic assistance to UW students, particularly those from low-income families and underrepresented backgrounds, as well as students who will be the first in their family to graduate from a four-year college.
  • The OMAD Instructional Center provides academic support and mentoring and a supportive and nurturing learning community for under represented minoritized students, first generation, and economically disadvantaged students to promote academic achievement, retention and successful graduation and to improve their chances of gaining admission to graduate and professional schools.
  • UW's Career Center has a personalized hub for career advice specific to students of color. 
  • The Pacific North West Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is dedicated to increasing the recruitment, retention and graduation rate of underrepresented students in STEM. To further this goal, LSAMP helps undergraduate and graduate students locate internships and paid research opportunities and other professional development opportunities.
  • The Office of Graduate Student Equity & Excellence (GSEE) is a primary resource for graduate students of underrepresented groups. It provides educational and social events to help graduate students develop themselves professionally in addition to a variety of other resources.

Community

Many ChemE Faculty, staff, and students were (or will be soon!) the first in their families to graduate from college.
