Give to ChemE

With state-of-the-art laboratory spaces, powerful computing resources, and a project-based curriculum, UW ChemE is training the next generation of innovators who will envision, design and implement sustainable solutions to pressing societal needs and become leaders in diverse industries.

The philanthropy of alumni and friends allows us to offer unparalleled educational experiences, support world-class faculty, and drive discoveries that will make the world a better place.

A gift to ChemE is an investment in engineering innovation and the success of future engineers

Our Funding Priorities

Student Support

Educating the next generation of engineering leaders is core to the department’s mission. Gifts in support of students help remove financial challenges that have become barriers to education, and provide top-notch educational experiences to our trainees.

Graduate student support

In many ways, our graduate students are the lifeblood of the department. Their energy, creativity, and diverse perspectives propel research in our labs. At the same time, they teach and mentor undergraduate students, spearhead STEM outreach events, and lead student organizations. However, barriers to graduate education have become increasingly complex in today’s economy and the UW has work to do to compete with the support offered by our peer institutions, as the cost of living in Seattle continues to rise.

We have embarked on an ambitious goal to increase the size of our ChemE PhD cohorts, and along with it, fellowship and programmatic support for these talented engineers. In particular, we are expanding fellowship support for first-year students to ease the financial burden of graduate education and set them on the path to success. Help us reach our goal with a contribution to the ChemE Alumni Fellowship Endowment, the John C. Berg Endowed Fellowship, or any of the endowed fellowships from our full list of funds.

Undergraduate support

Tuition costs have risen dramatically in recent years. Support of undergraduate scholarship endowments enables UW ChemE to attract the best students and provide educational access to diverse communities. Donate to the Chemical Engineering Scholarship, the John C. Berg Endowed Scholarship, or any of the endowed scholarships from our full list of funds.

Strategic Initiatives

Gifts to the Chemical Engineering Discretionary Fund provide support for new and ongoing programs that help the department meet its strategic goals. From recruiting excellent faculty and students to increasing the national visibility of UW ChemE to updating our educational facilities, the fund is a vital resource for carrying out both operational and strategic activities as determined by the chair.

Faculty Support

Faculty research in chemical engineering is a dynamic enterprise. The Chemical Engineering Faculty Support Fund provides a much-needed tool to ensure that our faculty stay ahead of the curve. This fund allows the department chair to respond to emerging priorities in faculty research and provide seed funding for new ventures. In addition, it enhances our ability to recruit top new faculty to ChemE.

Additional Giving Options

To support what you are most passionate about, you may choose from a range of established funds, which include the giving priorities above. Additional giving opportunities, such as establishing new endowed scholarships, fellowships and professorships, are also available. To explore these options, please contact Kaitlin Colleary.
