Andy Walker (B.S. ‘96) is recognized for his experience and achievements in leadership and accomplishments in the biotherapeutics industry.

Walker attended the University of Washington, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1996. As a student, he focused on applications in synthetic biology under the guidance of Professor Emeritus Barbara Krieger-Brockett. In reflecting on his time in ChemE, Walker expressed his appreciation of the camaraderie, passion and overall collaborative experience of being a student in Benson Hall with faculty that were so intent on providing impactful undergraduate education.
After graduating from the UW, Walker went on to complete a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of California, Berkeley in 2001. He started his industry career working as a technical staff member at a national laboratory, and has since held several senior leadership positions for various companies focused on biotherapeutic and cell therapy research, development and manufacturing. In 2020 Walker co-founded GentiBio, a company focused on developing regulatory T-cells optimized for use in the treatment and management of autoimmune diseases. Walker is an avid outdoorsman and fly fisherman, and balances his role as GentiBio's president and CEO with owning and operating Ross Lake Resort in the North Cascades.
Throughout his career, Walker has maintained a commitment to community building and volunteerism. He stayed involved with UW ChemE and currently serves as Chair of the External Advisory Board, where he helps to identify and explore opportunities to build industry connections and advocate for the department and its programs.
