Nada Naser

Scott and Cathi Roberts Term Assistant Teaching Professor of Chemical Engineering

Nada Naser

In December 2024, the UW Department of Chemical Engineering welcomed Nada Naser, Scott and Cathi Roberts Term Assistant Teaching Professor. Naser has established herself as a strong teacher and mentor, with demonstrated research and expertise in the areas of colloids, protein engineering, nanomaterial synthesis, microscopy and surface characterization.

Naser grew up in Egypt and came to the United States to attend Montana State University (MSU) on a four-year academic scholarship sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). As an undergraduate student, Naser conducted research in biomineralization and droplet-based microfluidics under the supervision of MSU professor Robin Gerlach. After earning her B.S. in chemical engineering in 2019, Naser was awarded the Clean Energy Institute (CEI) Graduate Research Fellowship at the University of Washington, and joined UW ChemE as a graduate student under the mentorship of Charles W. H. Matthaei Endowed Professor François Baneyx. Naser conducted research on the mineralization and characterization of inorganic nanomaterials using programmable, stimuli-responsive protein building blocks. She earned her M.S (‘22) and her Ph.D. (‘24) in chemical engineering from the University of Washington, and was named among the Husky 100 in 2024.

Her passion for engineering education and commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in chemical engineering have been a driving force in Naser’s academic and professional career. As a UW ChemE graduate student, she was an active leadership member and organizer for K-12 outreach programs through Women in Chemical Engineering (WChE) and SPIN Girls. Naser has also participated in international science education opportunities through Clubes de Ciencia Mexico.
