Molecular engineering is more than creating new molecules or discovering new structures—it is the purposeful design of molecules and molecular architecture to obtain a desired product or to modify existing chemical processes to minimize cost and environmental impact.
The UW Department of Chemical Engineering maintains a world-class research program with four research clusters: molecular energy processes, living systems and biomolecular processes, molecular aspects of materials and interfaces, and molecular/organic electronics; each divided into a number of sub-clusters.
