Housing

Most graduate students, whether single or married, choose to live in privately operated apartments and rental homes in the community surrounding the University. The Seattle Times classified section is a good source for rentals in the area.

An alternative is campus living. The University provides housing for single students in a variety of residence halls. Living accommodations for married graduate students also are available in University-owned housing, which includes apartments and small houses located in five separate housing developments.

Housing costs vary widely, but most of our graduate students pay between $400 and $600 per month for a studio or one-bedroom apartment, or the shared cost of a house or multi-bedroom apartment.

Bus transportation is both excellent and inexpensive with the University's award winning U-PASS program. For approximately $33 a quarter you'll receive a U-PASS that allows you to ride Metro and Community Transit buses anytime and just about anywhere in King and Snohomish counties. Express buses run directly between the University and other parts of the community. Special bicycle routes extend for several miles in and around the University. An automobile is not necessary, and perhaps not desirable, for comfortable living in Seattle.
