on research project at UW in summer, named Rhodes Scholar

Anya Yermakova, one of three undergraduate Amgen Scholars who worked on research projects this summer in the UW's Department of Chemical Engineering, has been named a Rhodes Scholar.

Yermakova is a 22-year old senior majoring in biochemistry at Northwestern University. She also majors in the history of science and logic. She will travel to England to study at Oxford University along with 31 other Americans who the Rhodes Trust chose as scholars. For more information, read the Chicago Tribune article.

In summer 2008, Yermakova worked in the lab of Danilo Pozzo, UW assistant professor of chemical engineering, on a project for the Amgen Scholars program. Her goal was to design a microfluidic device that accurately detects the level of fibronogen in a patient's plasma.
