UW Chemical Engineering Alumnus Charles Matthaei
inducted into American Society of Baking Hall of Fame

UW Chemical Engineering alumnus Charles Matthaei (BS '43), chairman of Roman Meal Company, was inducted into the American Society of Baking Hall of Fame in March 2008.

Matthaei joins a long list of baking pioneers, including Otto Rohwedder, inventor of the world's first bread-slicing machine. He received a plaque in March 2008 during a ceremony at American Society of Baking facilities in Manhattan, Kansas to honor his longevity in the industry. The plaque will be displayed there to honor his contributions to baking.

Matthaei began his career at Roman Meal in 1947. Some 60 years later, he is chairman of the board. UW Chemical Engineering named him a Distinguished Alumnus in 2003.
